THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM

WORTHLESSSTUDIOS partnered with The Noguchi Museum and Plywood Protection Project artist Tanda Francis to put on Making Your Mark 2021, a free summer art program for rising junior and senior high school students in New York City. Throughout the summer, participants learned how public art is created for a community and how to create their own proposals and models for public art. The workshop focused on how art can be a form of expression and healing. Using Isamu Noguchi’s sculptures and models for public projects as sources of inspiration, participants will consider subjects that are relevant to them and their communities today. Artist Tanda Francis taught a number of sessions to teach students about the development of her public sculpture RockIt Black, created for the Plywood Protection Project and installed in Queensbridge Park in Long Island City.

Participants met at The Noguchi Museum for all sessions except for one session that took place in Queensbridge Park with Tanda Francis. All art materials were provided. Participants also received a $250 stipend for participation in all sixteen sessions and all students had the option to receive a MetroCard.
