The Artists supported by our Photographer In Residence program spend one month each in a location of their choosing with the Airstream darkroom. Supplied with materials, a stipend, and additional workshops, the resident photographers work on a project that has heavy use of the darkroom. From handmade photobooks to self-portrait projects, the residents have taken the program’s offerings in many different directions. Hear from the photographers’ themselves and see select works made in-residency below.

Roy Baizan

Hunt’s Point, The Bronx, NY
October 2024

“I'm very fortunate to come into this conversation of photographers that [have] been doing this for so long… we talk about the Ricky Flores of the South Bronx, David Gonzalez, the Abigail Montes, Willie Dynamite… the whole list of Bronx photographers that are really active and all have a very similar mission of putting a shine on the borough and showing the love to the borough that has been through it all, you know?”

Amina Gingold

Levittown, NY
November 2024

“Having access to the WORTHESSSTUDIOS’ Airstream was just really beneficial [because you develop] a 24 hour workflow… so then you can just continue to be creative, like you continue to think about a photo, try something out even if you can't think of an idea, and then you make something that just evolves.”

Jean Richard Marques

Staten Island, NY
March 2025

“One of the very exciting things about having the Airstream come to me within my community here on Staten Island is that I really have this sense of immediacy and urgency, which is really exciting. That gives you the chance to take and make risks. My number one advice for photographers thinking about applying to this particular residency is: Think a lot about the space and how having the space in your location of choosing can influence and benefit your work.”
