SUEDE HUNTE

PHOTOGRAPHER IN RESIDENCE, OCTOBER 2026

Suede Hunte is a lens-based conceptual artist born and raised in the South Bronx. He founded BXposure, the first Black-owned film lab and darkroom in The Bronx. Suede began his artistic journey following the passing of his father, Charles, which prompted him to leave the corporate world he felt forced to enter after graduating from college. Suede completed the BronxArtSpace Artist Residency on Governors Island in the summer of 2024 and returned as an Artist in Residence on Governors Island through ArtCrawl Harlem for the summer of 2025. He received the 2025 En Foco Mixed Media Fellowship award and was selected as a Photographer in Residence for Worthless Studios (Brooklyn, New York) for October 2026.

Suede recently completed an Artist in Residence at the Andrew Freedman Home (Bronx, New York) in the summer of 2026 and became a permanent legacy Artist in Residence. He is the recipient of the 2026 Community Engagement Grant from the Bronx Council of the Arts, which includes both the Arts Fund grant and the highly competitive New Work grant. Suede holds a BA from Williams College (Williamstown, Massachusetts) in English literature and a concentration in maritime studies.
